What is Happiness?

The psychological definition of happiness is a mental or emotional state of well-being which can be defined by, among others, positive or pleasant emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy. However, it is believed that the concept of happiness is so vast that its definition cannot be restricted by the boundaries of words. It is the most subjective concept in the entire human history because each person in the world will have their own reason for happiness.

The judgment here implies making choices or choosing the sources of our happiness. We attach the idea of happiness with people, places, events or objects and when what we love is no more with us, we feel scattered and sad. What we need to understand here is that there is nothing wrong in seeking happiness in any of the above things but using them to determine our happiness will disappoint us because in this case, we are seeking happiness from external and unbalanced sources instead of within ourselves. That’s where happiness truly comes from.

Here are some signs that you are indeed happy and not just comfortable with something that you think is making you happy.

  1. Do you make an effort to be happy while you are going through tough times? If you do then you are happier than you think.
  2. Do you always try to surround yourself with happy people? If yes then you are happy from inside and that is the reason you want to attract happy people.

  2. Do you take care of yourself regardless of what the situation around you is? If yes then you are truly happy because you prioritize your well-being over everything that keeps you healthy and fit. A healthy body is the best reflection of a happy mind.
  3. Do you always reach out for help when someone needs you? If yes then you are indeed happy because you want to spread your happiness everywhere.
  4. Do you never get disappointed by setbacks and continue to fight your battle? If yes then you are among the happiest people because happy people never let negative energy and feelings harm themselves. Even if negativity strikes them, they know how to fight back.
  5. Do you quickly get upset by others opinions and hesitate to speak up for yourself? If yes then you are not really happy because happy people are comfortable with themselves and they love speaking about what they think and never feel bad after hearing another person’s opinion.

Give More Time to Yourself

Giving time to yourself includes everything you do for yourself without harming others. It includes several activities such as eating healthy, eating on time, exercising regularly, putting in the effort in making yourself look good, taking the time to visit your favorite places once in a week or month, and many more.

It is a proven fact that crying releases stress. It is okay to cry and if you cannot cry in front of people then you must take the time and cry alone.
